Paolo Iashvili: Verses
Paolo Iashvili was a Georgian poet, who together with his fellow poets and friends cofounded and led Symbolist group of Georgian poets - Tsisperqantselebi (Blue Horns). According to his friend and translator Boris Pasternak, Paolo Iashvili was "brilliant, polished, cultural, an amusing talker, European and good-looking". His early literary works played important role in the development of the symbolist movement in Georgia and showed his fondness for mysticism, while later works were affected by political events in Georgia occupied by the Bolsheviks in 1921. He was persecuted by the Soviet authorities and, in 1937, he committed suicide at the Writers’ Union of Georgia.
Very few of his works were translated into English.
